NO COST DIY VALENTINE'S DAY CRAFTS and DECOR! | MayMommy2011

The other day I just really felt like making stuff. Probably had something to do with going to Hobby Lobby for the first time. HOLY CRAP that place has a lot of stuff! I don't even think I made it through the whole store and we were in there for an hour. I started feeling kind of overwhelmed even, like I needed to get out of there and see the outside world again.

Anyway, I didn't really buy anything but it sure made me feel like being crafty. So, I went on Pinterest to get some ideas and ended up making some pretty cute Valentine's Day crafts/decorations for our home. The best thing?? I didn't spend ANY money at all!

Here's the video of all the things I made!

Here's a couple pictures, too :)

Have you made any fun Valentine's crafts this year?? If not, do you want to now?

Thanks for taking look! Until next time...

DIY Zipper Pillow Covers! {First Post}

So, I thought my first post was going to be some kind of background story all about me, like a little "get to know me" post, but then I thought, who really cares about that? You came here to read about pillow covers, right? Thought so.  The "girl behind the blog" post can come later...maybe. You know, if I ever feel like writing it.

About the pillow covers. I wanted to replace these two throw pillows on my bed, the little white ones with the black swirls. It was too much white. It needed a pop of color. (Yup. Totally using that phrase in my first post.)

Well actually, I only wanted to replace the covers, not the pillows themselves. The pillows were fine, I actually really like them. They're from Ikea. But pillow covers are really hard to find. So I decided to make my own. It's actually really easy to sew two squares of fabric together. I decided to be a little ambitious though, and added a zipper. Skipped right over that whole "envelope closure" thing. You can, too. I don't know why people are all scared of zippers...

Here's a link to the tutorial that I followed to make them.
→ Sew a Pillow Cover with a Zipper!

Each cover only cost me about $6 to make, including the zipper. I bought 2 yards of fabric at $4.99/yd and 2 zippers which were about $2 each. I also had a 15% coupon for Joann Fabrics.

 Here's my finished pillows!

Some close ups of the zippers

Looks pretty fancy shmancy, right?!

Anddd here's the bed with the new pillows on it!

I love them! Now I can change the look of the room whenever I want to just by sewing some new covers. Totally beats buying new pillows all the time! Give it a try and you may never buy a new throw pillow again! Or at least not for a while :)

Just a little side note: when the tutorial said to use a "zipper foot" I thought, what the heck is a zipper foot? I don't have that. So I sewed my first cover without using it, and it was pretty tough to sew close enough to the zipper.  For the second pillow I figured out that a zipper foot is a piece for the sewing machine that's meant to be used while sewing in zippers.

If you have one, use it. Makes it so much easier.

Also, pick a zipper that's about two inches shorter than the length of your pillow cover. My pillow covers were 18 inches and I got a 14" zippers. I got the pillows in there but a 16" zipper would have been easier.

Well, that's the end of my first post. I hope it was alright. If you're still reading,
you're awesome and I hope you stick around :) If you check out the side bar of this blog there's a spot where you can enter your email address to get an email whenever I make a new post. You can also click "join this site" to follow this blog right here on blogger. At least I think that's what it does...

Our pizza just got here, I'm gonna go eat now. Bye!
